Where innovators discuss world events and issues like alternative energy

I recently found 1bog.org, which appears to be a group solar panel project.  They say they help you purchase and install solar panels, and help you leverage the tax credits available in certain areas.  The areas they have programs going are:

  • Bay Area
  • San Francisco
  • Los Angeles
  • San Diego
  • New Orleans
  • Denver
  • Sonoma County
  • Phoenix
  • San Antonio
  • New Jersey
  • Long Island
  • Coachella Valley

Has anyone tried this program or heard anything good/bad about it?

I've recently completed an 8.8kw solar installation using 1BOG in Northern New Jersey. I'd looked into solar off and on over the past several years but found the cost to be higher than I had wanted. This year with the lower cost of panels and the still-high rebates at the state and solar level (plus great prices on SRECs in New Jersey) I investigated again. The price and program from 1BOG beat the pants off of the other companies I received quotes from, to the point that one other installer, when I told him what my final cost would be through 1BOG, wanted to learn more about the program because he couldn't come near the same pricing for similar panels. You should be aware that in general, the 1BOG price covers basic panels (higher watt panels may cost more, something to keep in mind if you want a larger system in smaller roof space) and does not cover extras like web monitoring, etc. But I found the entire process to be relatively simple and my installer (The Solar Center) stayed on top of all aspects of the project such as permits, applications, etc. At the end of the day I think these kinds of programs will result in more aggressive competition among all solar companies, and will only help consumers who are considering going solar.
Esther, thanks for the feedback. I am looking into this program because I'd like to install solar panels on my parent's house in the Los Angeles area, and this program seems to pop up on all kind of great informational sites. I will give them a call and welcome to the site. We are very interested in sustainable living and are currently talking about the next generation of vehicles and were just talking about how we might be able to use solar energy in Afghanistan.
