Growing Food Ourselves...
Throughout the world, but especially North America, SuperMarkets have taken over the food market landscape. In the United States especially, where the automobile reins supreme, these gigantic Walmart-like structures are everywhere. Even "organic" food stores like Whole Foods are HUGE. The markets are not sustainable, and get majority of their food frozen from many many miles away.
Growing our own food seems like a logical thing for us to do, as we look to use our land more intelligently, and reduce oil dependency, which comes from food transportation. We can also get back to self-sufficiency, at least at a local level, which should help us all feel better about making it through any financial crisis the world is likely to see.
In this group, let's talk about gardening and farming techniques, especially those that can be applied to typical yards or even balconies and rooftops.
