Where innovators discuss world events and issues like alternative energy

I'm doing some research on offshore drilling practices for this week's topics and will be adding what I find to this discussion so we can all discover together.  Please add your own findings here as well so we can all be better informed.

I found this article talking about what Jack Gerard, the president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, said in a statement about what they are going to do to try to ensure this doesn't happen again. Not very much information, but it gave me some keywords I'm going to lookup like:

remotely operated vehicles (ROVs)
blowout-preventer
deepwater contractors
Hi Nicholas,

Last week (sorry for the delay), you mentioned via Urgent Evoke that you were evoking people to add to your body of knowledge re: Offshore Drilling. Based on sunnydupree's inspiration, I looked into Oceana, the non-profit that is working to enhance public awareness about offshore drilling and to energize people to ask their congressmen to vote against it for environmental issues. I made some contacts at Oceana when I did so -- and here's one of their requests -- with lots of informative links. Hope this is helpful to you --

"Currently, we are asking folks to contact their Senators about offshore drilling

comments on Obama's offshore drilling plan are due today

We put together a list of resources for folks who want to do more

Hope this is helpful!
Elizabeth, this is great stuff thank you!

I was recently reading that Chenney had some part in loosening regulations for offshore drilling and trying to make it easier for this activity to happen. I'm discussing it here and would love to hear about any of the political background you might have collected along the way as well.

As the situation worsens in the Gulf, I think people have begun to notice. I'm hoping people don't stop at finger pointing, and look into the deeper problem of our dependence on oil, and the ways we can rid ourselves of it.

I'd also love to hear about your thoughts on our best alternative fuel options because that's the only long-term insurance we have against another oil spill.
