Syria

With all the change going on in the world, I feel like Syria is getting drowned out.  I'm starting this discussion so that we can start to pull together information about what's going on and discuss what actions we can take to help bring attention to the murder and oppression being committed by President Al-Assad. I feel that the…See More

Cars of the Future

A Misguided BeginningWhile researching the Cars of the Future, I came across a lot of interesting and differing information. I started with a bit of mis-information, which colored a lot of my initial trains of thoughts. After doing some research, I did almost a 180, and then ended up somewhere in the middle. Here's are some of the pieces of information that I started with, and either proved or disproved along the way.Biofuels are the answer...Before I started looking into the technologies being…See More

Nicole, I just saw a PBS documentary called "Freedom Riders".  It really hit home with what we're talking about.  It's about a group of Civil Rights activists that rode on buses from Washington DC to all over the U.S.…

Nicole,   Thank you for continuing to help us explore these humanitarian issues.  I know it's not changing anything, but I think understanding the issues and exploring solutions will lead to change over time.   Personally,…

Is it just me or does it seem ironic that "we" have come to a consensus with other nations like Russia, China, and the UK that Nuclear War is a Lose/Lose situation for EVERYONE.  However, we can't make the leap from Nuclear War…

shoot - I accidently deleted my comment when I just wanted to edit it a little.    In a nutshell, it said "I believe Americans don't realize the impact of their violent response to Osama because the general population…

Osama Bin Laden...anger, war, patriotism, what's it all about

I've been waiting to post my thoughts on the death of Osama Bin Laden to give myself some time to reflect and think about all that has happened, and what continues to happen in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and other places around the world. Initially when I heard of his death I felt some relief, and I re-lived a bit of anger remembering what he had helped do to the United States.  However, I became more upset about the people celebrating here in the United States than…See More

Koshy, I've actually thought the same thing and taken the same stance when talking to others.  I think people are what make things work, not systems.  For instance, I think a Monarchy can really well if the ruler is a good person and…

Free speech...is it still free if someone else pays the price for you?

I just read about UN workers killed as a retaliation over the burning of the Koran.  These UN workers were killed during a protest in Afghanistan over the burning of the Koran by some pastors in Florida.

I firmly believe in free speech, but my question is, should we at home be aware that the free speech we enjoy while here safe at home, might be putting others at risk who are outside U.S.…

Hi Nicholas,
the platform is going pretty well; maybe a bit slowly (since I'm working on cool stuff I'll let you know soon) but inexorable :)
Beyond the forum you might consider to join the beyondEVOKE list:

and help me spread the word. I can ensure you it won't be "just another network"

I read your post and appreciated the good mood, though I must confess that, to me, positiveness isn't enough to be effective in reality, and consistent with our good will.
I think biggest and heaviest steps are to be taken, yet; but I won't bother too much with such ideas in here. Maybe I'll open a discussion and invite you, later on ;)

This is a great idea -- I like the way you took the weekly focus thing from EVOKE. It's a good model. This would be a perfect site for classes to use for in-depth studies of current events. I'll spread the word :-)

Omg it's so funny you say that, a friend of mine from high school made a post on FB the other day and I wanted to comment so bad but I knew it would've "stirred the pot" way too much for her to handle! It was really hard to bite my tongue! I'm looking forward to having adult discussions here.
