ampat varghese koshy HITCH-HACKER’S GUIDE TO THE LEARNIVERSE: A REVIEW OF THE “WRIGHTEINGS” OF DR A.V.KOSHY

By Michele Baron

Beginning to read Wrighteings – 1. … in media res… by Dr. A. V. Koshy (& his brother, A.V. Varghese, in one paper) is like cross-training for an intellectual decathlon. A self-proclaimed autodidact of multifaceted interests, Dr. Koshy has put together the best samples of his writings from the last 12 years of his “pilgrimage” through life, work, the works of man, doubt, learning, identity, sense of self and…

Nicholas Nagao Cars of the Future

A Misguided Beginning

While researching the Cars of the Future, I came across a lot of interesting and differing information. I started with a bit of mis-information, which colored a lot of my initial trains of thoughts. After doing some research, I did almost a 180, and then ended up somewhere in the middle. Here's are some of the pieces of information that I started with, and either proved or… Continue

Nicholas Nagao Osama Bin Laden...anger, war, patriotism, what's it all about

I've been waiting to post my thoughts on the death of Osama Bin Laden to give myself some time to reflect and think about all that has happened, and what continues to happen in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and other places around the world.

Initially when I heard of his death I felt some relief, and I re-lived a bit of anger remembering what he had helped do to the United States.  However, I became more upset about the people celebrating here in the…

Michele Baron Who is the Libyan Opposition-- report of discussion with Ali Aujali

We are currently living outside Washington, DC, and I sing in a number of places, as well as work on humanitarian and sustainability-related projects. I happen to sing with a person, who knows of my other work, who attended the April 4 conference at the "Center for American Progress," where Ali Aujali, Official Representative to the United States, Transitional Council of the Libyan Republic, spoke. My friend gave me these Briefing Materials (public information). The materials I transcribe…

ampat varghese koshy Libya

I was in Libya from September to July  in 2009 to 2010. I was teaching as an Associate Professor at Al Mergib University which is now called Misurata University.  I taught English at a teacher's training college in Al Khums. They paid us well which helped me because i have an autistic son but getting the money home was difficult. Al Khums is famous for being the gateway of Africa once upon a time and contains the magnificent ruins of Leptis Magna. It was a peaceful semi-urban space/place and…

Nicholas Nagao Free speech...is it still free if someone else pays the price for you?

I just read about UN workers killed as a retaliation over the burning of the Koran.  These UN workers were killed during a protest in Afghanistan over the burning of the Koran by some pastors in Florida.

I firmly believe in free speech, but my question is, should we at home be aware that the free speech we enjoy while here safe at home, might be putting others at risk who are outside U.S.…

ampat varghese koshy Autism for Help Village Project Details

The Autism for Help Village project was born as a seed concept during the World Bank/Urgent Evoke season 1. Since that inception, these are the steps taken for this project to become a full fledged reality.

1. Achievement: AfhVP was chosen as one of the winning evokations by none other than the World Bank Institute, and called "exemplary" and "outstanding."

2. Achievement: The Project Leader was certified as a legendary hero in social innovation and entrepreneurship, in…

Nicholas Nagao Portable Solar Panel & Battery

Find more photos like this on RespectedOpinions

I got my portable solar panel/battery today and am starting some initial tests. I plan to take it with me on my trip back to Texas (from Toronto) as well to see how well it does in the car. So far I've charged 2 phones and an iPod on it and it seems to work great. The casing and buttons are well built and overall the device is… Continue

Nicholas Nagao My hope for our legacy...

I've recently had a chance to reflect on my time spent with some special people. I didn't realize how special they were until recently, and would like to share what I've learned. The people I'm talking about are the Harcourts. I dated one of the Harcourts for a few years, and her father owns and operates a number of schools around the country. These schools are dedicated to helping kids with autism learn and develop.

Over the past few months I've been doing a lot of…

Nicholas Nagao Security is important, but recovery/response is more important

While reading this Scientific American article, I realized something that I learned while participating at www.urgentevoke.com, but it didn't hit home until it was applied to a field I was more familiar with. Disaster recovery is a very well-known practice in the IT world, ESPECIALLY after 9/11.

I had another example of this principle happen just this week. I got a virus on my computer. It was the…

Nicholas Nagao Offshore Drilling Facts....so let's talk realistically

  • About 70 percent of the world’s oil discoveries in the past two years have been offshore
  • With global demand expected to rise as much as 18 percent in the next 10 years, energy producers will have no choice but to exploit oil deposits under thousands of feet of water and hundreds of miles from shore
  • Cobalt International Energy Inc., the oil explorer whose largest shareholders are…

Nicholas Nagao Super-inflation in the Ukraine...could it happen in America?

Working in the Financial Services industry, money is of particular interest to me. Not just making money, but understanding what it is, how it works, and what I can do with that knowledge. As many people are aware or are discovering thanks to this mission, money is just a piece of paper unless someone values it to be worth something. I'm going to speak about super inflation, and use my friend as an example because I think it helps illustrate the last point I made....money is just… Continue

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd let you all know about the new format I created for RespectedOpinions. Every week I will pick a topic in the news, but I'll try to pick things that we can discuss on a level deeper than just what's happening currently.

Nicholas Nagao Video illustrating the effectiveness of the boons in the Gulf Oil Spill

I'm glad they were able to get these boons deployed, but it makes me wonder how they'll hold up over time. I also wonder how long the clean up will take.
