Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, and child abuse allegations

I've been following this for a little while now and wanted to start a discussion here, as well as create a place where people can read about this in one place. Let me start with the newest update from the Pope, which I read about here. In the article it describes the Pope as having a very powerful meeting with some of the victims and family of victims. He vows do take action, but doesn't indicate what type of action might be taken. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but hope that these are not just hollow words.

This is some pretty appalling video showing the level of effort that was made to remove priests that were abusing children, and yet Pope Benedict did not remove him.
