Where innovators discuss world events and issues like alternative energy

I know a lot of people are already aware and participating at Kiva.org, but I thought I'd do a writeup on my experience with the micor-finanace website to let other people know how a small donation can be fun for years.

The idea of Kiva.org is to provide small loans (usually in the Hundreds of dollars), and split that loan up into several smaller loans so that individuals may loan amounts in the $25 range. Once the loan is paid back (with interest), you get to use the money paid back to make more loans, so my $25 will be something like $27 after I get paid back.

Here is the group that I donated to

The Laïdou Group are a group of women in Africa are selling vegetables and needs some money to get more inventory to bring to market.

I made my initial investment on May 10, 2010, and so far (as of 8/15/2010) I have received 2 payments, and email updates each time a payment has been made. I can even use the partial payments made so far to invest into another project immediately if I'd like. Please share your Kiva.org stories here as well. Let's get this great organization some attention!
